POSSESSION OBSESSION:
Objects owned by Andy Warhol at the RISD Museum
July 18-October 13, 2002
Possession Obsession provides a rare opportunity to examine one of the least-studied aspects of artist and pop culture icon Andy Warhol: his obsessive collecting. Astonishing for their range, eclecticism and quality, the possessions exhibited here include important examples of Art Deco furniture and silver, 19th-century American furniture and folk art, Native American art and artifacts and dazzling jewelry. This exhibition reunites several hundred of the more than 10,000 objects famously auctioned by Sotheby’s after Warhol’s death in 1987.
