Sharks spotted at Narragansett Town Beach

Six sharks were spotted swimming about 100 yards off the coast of Narragansett Town Beach on Monday afternoon. Hundreds of swimmers were called in and although no one was injured (and it wasn't a true panic) for the forseeable future, swimming has been prohibited at the town beach. The beach itself will remain open, but swimming is a big no-no. Town officials will make determinations later today as to allowing swimming.


UPDATE: (7/8/03--11:30 am) Narragansett officials are now allowing ankle-wading, and will be updating the situation every couple of hours.
